What a Rubbish Day!

Rubbish pick up day has arrived at last - after all our thinking, planning and ideas about how to go about our task.
We all got into our teams of two children and one parent. Sahara and Nicholas and Mrs Grace were one team, here they are picking up rubbish from their patch.

We made it to marker number 2 and just look how much rubbish we have!

"This bag is getting heavy, Mrs Grace!" said Sahara.

Back at school we empty all the rubbish onto a big tarp  in the pool and then wait for everyone else to return with their bags.

This pile is getting big!

Oh my goodness! What a lot of rubbish!

Still more to add to the pile...

and more...

Unbelievable!

We are astounded at how much rubbish we have collected.

Now we have to sort it into piles, plastics...

paper...

metals...

other materials....

glass...

That was one very big clean up. We could not have done it with out all the wonderful parents and grandparents that came to help us - thank you!!!

Kapa Haka Performance

Our wonderful Kapa Haka group gave a performance for the school today.

They looked splendid and sounded superb. They have an important performance on Thursday which we are sure they will do very well at.

Being part of the Kapa Haka group is something to look forward to when you get higher up the school, Busy Bees!

Mrs Wetere

Every three weeks Mrs Wetere comes to to do some Maori language, songs and games with us. We really enjoy this time because Mrs Wetere makes it lots of fun. Today she read us a lovely story called 'Kei te pehea koe' (How do you feel?).

We had a lot of fun working with titi torea this afternoon.

We can't wait till Mrs Wetere's next visit!

Kelly Sports

All this term we have been having a session on a Monday morning with Sophie from Kelly Sports. Sophie's focus for the Junior Syndicate has been 'Balance'. We have played lots of games that need these skills and it has been lots of fun. Here are some photos of what we got up to with Sophie this week.

Today we focused on some throwing skills we warmed up with Sophie rolling out tennis balls from a hoop in the middle of the hall - we had to run and catch the balls using our good dodging skills that we worked on last week. We had to use team work to try and beat Sophie!

We used tennis balls, big balls and bean bags to throw at targets on the walls.

It was a lot of fun.

But we had to be accurate to hit the targets.

We had to use some power in our throws, too.

We will play this game again during the week.

Then we played a game where we had to be in two teams and throw balls and bean bags over to the opposite teams side and try and get them to land in the hoops.

Fantastic Friday Fun and Cross Country celebration

Mrs Grace is in Room 3 for the next couple of Fridays and this week had a fun day of story telling planned with the busy bees. We have been re-telling fairy tales and today we made puppets and made up our own mini-plays to re-tell the story of Jack, his cow and his magic bean that grew and grew!

Our first thing to celebrate today was our fabulous Room 3 advocates who represented us and Outram School at the Taierei Regional Cross Country Event on Thursday. We are really proud of your efforts Oscar, Scott, Lucas, Hannah, Harvey and Merepeka. Well done!

Next we listened again to the tale of Jack and his wonderful adventures. We have been making puppets in the Allen Centre this term so we were really keen to make some Jack and the Beanstalk puppets to make our own plays!

There was a lot of thinking, instruction following, and team work involved in this activity.

We also really had to manage ourselves and this is the Key Competency that we are focusing on this term.

We really enjoyed this activity and made our own shows in small teams.

Maths Fun

We have been looking at fractions. Today Nicholas and Daniel's group were were working independently whilst Mrs Grace worked with other groups. They are working on a fractions worksheet and then they had a before and after numbers board to complete.

Scott was working with Mrs Grace. We were working with the number 6 and here Scott has just been on a hunt for 6 things from around the class.

Speech Night

How nerve wracking: Outram School Speech Night and Room 3 representatives Harvey, Hannah and Sahara were amongst the first children up to do their poem recitals.

What a fantastic job you did - Room 3 are proud of you!

Two of our morning senior readers: Angus and PK did a fantastic job of compering the evening with their witty repartee. Lots of laughs - thanks boys!

Room 3ers receiving their certificates.

All the junior poetry recitalists.

Here are some photo's of our Year 7 and 8's doing their speeches...

Reef a regular morning helper in Room 8.

Sarah is one of wet lunch time monitors in Room 8.

Luke, one of our morning readers and one of the leaders of the Allen Centre Robotics club, did a speech on electric cars being the future...very convincing Luke - will look into it!

Ted is one of our new morning readers. Good readers, make good writers. Good writers write good speeches - take note Busy Bees!

Will is often seen in Room 3 delivering milk at lunch time.

Finn and Sam both regular helpers in Room 3 both did terrific speeches!

A very good evening with some wonderful entertainment. I hope the Room 3 Busy Bees aspire to follow in their Senior Buddies footsteps.
