A Good Start

We have hit the hive buzzing! Lots of enthusiasm and hard work going on in Room 3.

Our inquiry time this week is all about fire; what it is, how we use it, how to be safe around it and how to get ourselves out safely if there is a fire (have a safe meeting place for the whole family, go low on hands and knees if there is smoke and get out as quickly as possible, call 111). It would be wonderful if you could talk to your children about where your safe family meeting place is if there is a fire in your house, talk about your escape routes from different rooms and talk about how we call 111.

Just a reminder that library day is a Wednesday afternoon. This is also homework day - so if any parents are used to testing spelling on a Friday this has now changed to a Wednesday morning. Hopefully parents will still be able to help out with this.

Another reminder for anyone with lovely, long hair: please make sure that this is tied up. Tying up long hair significantly reduces the risk of contracting and passing on nits and as we all know this is very difficult to get rid of once it starts in a class.

One important thing to note is about Fridays. On a Friday I will have some time out of the class as CRT (Classroom Release Time). These days will be covered for me by Phillipa Lord, who I think most of you will be familiar with. If not do pop in to say hello to Phillipa on any Friday, she will be most happy to chat to you. Sometimes I will be around working on assessments with the children: checking their maths and reading. Other times I will be doing professional development. One area I am working on this term is improving my art skills and am undertaking an Art for teachers course on a Friday afternoon. Not my area of expertise - so watch this space....

Welcome to the Room 3 Busy Bees Blog

Hi Everyone

Welcome to the Room 3 Blog! This is the place to bee....check out all the Room 3 learning adventures and find out any important information here.

We are a class of Year 1 and 2 children at Outram Primary School, Dunedin. Our beautiful, rural school is located on the Taieri Plain, nestled under the Maungatus. We are always a hive of activity in Room 3 and Mrs Grace is our Queen Bee.

Any communication to home through letters will be put on here and if there are any school wide or sports notes I will endeavour to remember to put a reminder here for you to check in the bottom of the school back for the information.

Hi Everyone...

Hi Everyone

As your child’s new teacher I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you.
I have worked in Room 3 before, alongside Mrs Bellamy, so am very familiar with many of the
special routines (and friends: SuperTed, Mr Tweety-Bird) that the children all know and are
used to.

Both of my own children have been lucky enough to attend Outram Primary School and
now attend town High Schools. I have been working at Outram School in a relieving capacity
(both short and long term) for a number of years. I live locally with my husband, two children
(Joe and Evie Rose), our two cats, dog, too many chickens to count and an awful lot of
fish (in various tanks). I love teaching, reading, walking, cooking, being with my family and
learning new things!

I have spent much of the holidays learning what I can about your children and am very much
looking forward to being their new teacher and getting to know them. Please feel free to pop in
and say hello before or after school or send me an email julieg@outram.school.nz.
I am very happy to make an appointment with you if you have any concerns at any point in the
term.

I will be blogging all our Room 3 Learning adventures on
https://room3busybee.blogspot.co.nz/

I am looking for parent/grandparent help in the classroom for Reading (Mon-Thurs 11am)
Writing (Tues-Thurs 9.30-10.30) or for Maths (Mon-Thurs 12.00-12.45). If you would like,
and are available, to help please drop me an email.

One significant change in Room 3 is regarding homework. This will be given out on
a Wednesday and collected in on a Wednesday. This will give the children a whole week to
complete the tasks - taking the pressure off a little during the week; when little ones are tired.
I would, however, like the children to read their reading books every day after school
(obviously just pop a note in the reading log if there has been a busy evening at home - we
all get nights like these!).

Have a great Term 2 everyone and I look forward to meeting you all at some point.
