Fitness Focus

Term 2

Fitness is our ten - fifteen minute fitness blast that we tend to do in the morning. Our focus this term is going to be running. Running is something that most children will do naturally and is not something as parents we tend to think about teaching as an actual skills based activity.

My focus with the children this term will be head up - children will be encouraged to keep their heads  up whilst leaning forwards, lift knees - children will be encouraged to lift their knees whilst running and to push off the balls of their feet. I will also be asking the children to pump arms like a train.

Consolidating these skills at home whilst playing games, walking the dog or going to the park will be really helpful to your child. Simply using the vocal cues I use daily at school should be enough to prompt the use of the skills so: head up, lift knees, push off, pump arms.

On Friday's throughout the tern Mrs Lord has been working on ball skills with the children. This takes the form of lots of differing games and skill based practise with large and small balls.

Term 3

We will continue with our daily runs at the beginning of term in preparation for Cross Country in Week 2. We are running much further now than we were at the beginning of Term 2 so we have made good progress.

On Monday mornings throughout Term 2 we are having a session with Sophie from Kelly Sports: her focus is on balance. We also do balance daily after our run when we do our stretches and then some calming yoga balance poses before we head back into class for some heads down class work.
