Pyjama Day

Pyjama Day started with a shared breakfast in the Hall. Everyone was having a yummy breakfast when I came in to take some photo's.

There was toast and cereal options available...

There was even milo being served.

Finn and Ted give me the thumbs up "It's been a successful morning."

Take a look behind the scenes - the year seven and eights roll up their sleeves preparing, serving and cleaning up.

Here we are the P.J. Crew!

Firefighters teach us to be Firewise!

Today Aaron and Dave the Firefighter talked to us about smoke alarms. They said everyone should have a smoke alarm in their bedroom.

He drew a picture of a house and showed us how the smoke rises and fills the house from the top to the bottom. That is why we have to keep low and get out fast! Sometimes we might go out of the door if the fire or smoke was not blocking our way. We would climb out of the window if the door was blocked. If we couldn't open the window we would smash it with something hard like a drawer, then put a blanket over the cut glass and climb out.

What if we were on the second floor though? Aaron said we should get to the window and shout for help. Hopefully someone would come, if not and it was getting too hot we would have to jump.

Where do we go once we are out? We go to the safe meeting place that mum and dad have told us about.

Lucas and Caleb demonstrated what we do if our clothes are on fire: stop, drop and roll on the ground. That will put the fire out.

We played a game called tools or toys. There was a ball, a truck and a barrel of monkeys: these we decided were all toys. There was a screw driver, matches, a lighter and a candle and these we decided were tools for adults only. We don't play with these!

Aaron showed us his Fire fighter outfit: this is his flash hood and it stops his ears from getting burnt in a fire.

Here Aaron is pulling on his trousers which are attached to special firefighter boots. They have special braces on to stop his pants from falling down.

Here he is putting on his special fire proof jacket.

This is his special mask that is attached to an oxygen tank. It means that Aaron can go into a smoke filled house and still be able to breath.

He wears the helmet to protect his head in case anything falls on him.

These special gloves protect his hands.

Here are two of the stories that were written in class today about the Firefighter's visit:

Well done Harvey; like that you have done a title and used an exclamation mark in your report.

This next one is by Sahara; well done you have done a title too!

Pip and Harold

Last week and this week have been special because we have had the Life Education bus at school. We have had three sessions with Pip and Harold and have learnt all kinds of amazing things about our bodies.

We learnt about how we breath and where the oxygen we breath comes from and we learnt a pretty cool song that helps us remember all the facts - it goes to the tune of head, shoulders, knees and toes.

We also learnt what happens to our food when it goes into the body, what our food helps us do and where it goes...

Meet Clyde.....

How exciting! We finally get to me Clyde; Walter's little brother...

He is so tiny and beautiful....

Thanks so much for bringing him in to meet us Walter - he is so lucky to have such a terrific big brother.

Printing time is a time when we focus really hard on warming up our hands for writing, holding our pencils correctly, listening, watching and then forming our letters correctly. We have been doing some terrific work. Here are todays printing stars: Scott, Hannah and Nicholas. Keep up the great work everyone!

Oh dear.....some reminders.....and Happy Mother's Day

Whoops! Oh, no! Stinky! What do you think naughty Luna has been up to?

This should put things right....

Wonderful...Emily and Polly found these seeds today to go on our nature table. I heard all about the fun the buzzy bees had been having today doing science experiments with Mrs Lord....sounds like some of you got lots of dice afloat in your boats...good job bees.

A few reminders for the week we have homework Wednesday to Wednesday so don't forget those homework books so Mrs Grace can get your spellings ready for the following week. Also spelling tests on Wednesday morning and Library day - so remember those books to swap. Phew! Wednesday really is our busy day, isn't it?

Below is our new snack table. Each of these mats have been created by an individual bee and they are for putting one or two snacks from your lunch bag on in the morning. This will save us valuable minutes at Feed and Read time. Look under the table......

A lunch box box....for putting your lunch boxes in ready for lunch, another time saving idea.....
and what is this green box by the door....?

This is our Book Bag Box for....putting our book bags in. Please do this in the mornings.

So quick re-cap...come in, book bag in green box, one or two snacks on your decorated place mat ready for Feed and Read, and lunch boxes in the Lunch Box Box ready for lunch time. New routines to get used to but these buzzy bees are quick learners. Have a lovely weekend everyone and a wonderful Mother's Day to all you terrific, loving mothers out there who are doing the best job with this happy, polite and energetic bunch of bees.

Bible in Schools

On Thursday afternoon Mrs Nicholl comes in to do Bible in Schools with us. We sing fun songs, play games and do some drawing and writing.

Here we are doing one of our action songs...

Wednesday

Today was the first of our Kiwi Golf sessions and Mrs Grace forgot to take her phone out to get some great pictures of us! This week we learnt to hold our clubs properly and to hit the ball. We have to stand in a hoop and our feet point to where the ball is sitting. Then we bend with a straight back and swing with straight arms. We were pretty good....and it was a lot of fun with Mel.

At the end of everyday we award the KC (Key Competencies) Cup to a new pupil. Yesterday Nicholas was our KC Cup holder for being a kind and helpful person and he awarded the cup today Scott for being a hard worker.

Nature Table

What an amazing Autumn day and we have some fabulous natural things all around us - just look at our beautiful nature full of different coloured leaves, nuts and crab apples - maybe you have something at home that you would like to send in for us t look at.

Well Done, Scott!

Well done, Scott!
Mum and Kerry (Scott's swimming teacher) are both very proud of Scott, who has worked this term at becoming more confident in the pool. On Sunday he finally put his whole head underwater and went down for a toy! So here he is sporting his new Spiderman glove; a treat from Mum for being terrific.

Maths time and we are working hard.

We love having Belinda in our class to help us.

Lunch time and the sun is out: Harvey and Nicholas are enjoying a run around.
