Term 2

In week 1 we our shared  a poem called 'The Wind' - a good Autumnal poem!

We have a nature table in class that we our filling with Autumn treasures if you have anything at home to put on there please send along.

Our Big Book, that we shared at the beginning of reading, was about fire safety.  We are sharing another book on Fire Safety in Week 2. We are also pulling this theme into our writing and writing some stories about fire. So this week is the perfect week to go over your own family guidelines about safety with fire and to discuss your escape routes from your house should there be a fire.

Week 4 is almost over! We have been looking at our writing goals this week and focusing on those in our daily writing. Some of us are working on making sure we put our capital letters and full stops in the correct place, others have been focusing on finger spaces between words and some of us have been adding titles and 'wow!' words in our writing. In printing we are making sure we always start our letters at the top and not at the bottom. We have certainly been busy.

There has been a big focus in the latter half of the term on meeting our goals. Lots of repetition about using capital letters and full stops for our sentences and lots of talk about what a sentence is. Much of what we do at reading, printing and phonics time is repeated and re-presented at writing time giving the children lots of opportunities to take on this information.

Term 2

At the beginning of Term 2 we will recap on some of the reading skills and writing goals that we working on at the end of Term 2 as the big break from work in the holidays often mean that reminders are useful. We have Constable Ross in delivering the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme alongside us in the classroom. I will be using writing and reading time as a platform for the delivery of my parts of the programme and much of our writing in the first two weeks will be around feelings and about being safe.

Making lists is an important skill and we have been learning how to do this using our topic study to make lists from.
